Got a Halliscratchers SX-122 that's developed some audio distortion.  Replaced the audio coupling caps but it's still there.  What else to check?

Check the cap across the cathode of the audio output tube (s).

CW is just a narrower version of AM

Hi Scott,

I'll throw in my 2c.

Did you try replacing the 6GW8 audio tube? That is a tube trying to do a lot.
Same with the AM detector/AGC tube 6BN8.

Did you check to see if the distortion occurs on SSB/CW as well as AM? Confirm that both modes have audio distortion.

Also check that the AGC is working. Does the distortion clean up at a low signal level?

This test will point towards the audio tube or towards the AM/AGC tube or the product detector tube circuits.
