I fired up the Swan 270B, and tuned around for some AM.  Nothing heard, so I CQed for a half hour on 3885.  No luck.  Anybody interested in trying for a QSO with a PWer?

Ellen,

Your post shows as "10:13 PM" on my screen, and it's 9:20 as I write this, so I'm not sure what's going on with the Time zone. Feel free to try 3885 now: I don't hear anyone.

Hi Guys,

It's 10:17 PM CDT.  I just finished calling CQ for 20 minutes.  The band sure is noisy tonight.  I also have a ton of line noise from the t-storms that rolled through here last night and this morning.  I have to get up at 4:30 AM for work tommorrow, so I think I'll call it a night.  Thanks for listening for me.  Hopefully condx. will be better tomorrow.

Hey Ellen,

I'll listen for you tonight, just give me an idea of when and where.  I probably would have heard you last night but I packed it in early. The static on the band drove a lot of people off last night.  I live across the water from you in Northern Michigan and usually Wisconsin stations are very loud here.  Just keep trying!!

Currently running a big homebrew transmitter (pair of 250THs modulated by a pair of 810s) paired up with a National HRO-50.  I also run a BC-610-I / NC-2-40D combo which is a lot of fun too.

Catch you on 75M AM!

Hi Brian,

That sounds great. Thanks. Smiley  I live in the Milwaukee area, and I'm one of the PW stations.  We're relatively close to each other (we'd be evn closer if I lvied in my hometown of Manitowoc).  If you want , we clould do it even earlier.  I'm out of work around 4:30 or so your time, and typically home by 5:15 your time.  If you'd like to try 75, or 160 (I'll have to use the FT-897D for that band) let me know.  I'll let you set the time & freq.  If I hear nothing from you, I'll just announce on this thread, when I'm on and calling CQ.

Ok Ellen,

Just got home, its about 5:45pm my time here...  How about trying 3705 at around 7:00pm (6:00pm your time).  If no luck there, try 3880 or 3885 as a backup.  Hopefully you get this message before then!  I'll be looking for you..

I had to switch over the the ricebox, when the mic began giving me problems on the Swan.  I have tons of noise, but I am hearing people in the Window. I had to go QRT on 3885 a few minutes ago because the Collins Collectors Net got underway.  I couldn't hear net control,  but I did hear a K9 trying to check in.  I also briefly heard what sounded like a roundtable starting up on 3880, but nothing since then.   Brian, I'm hearing your roundtable on 3705.  I'll try to break in.

I'm going QRT.  I have tons of QSB, and had to wear headphones, just to hear the roundtable on 3705.  Brian, K8KHZ is 49, to 59 Plus, when the noise periodically abates.  The noise level is high, and my ears are nuked. Maybe tomorrow.

Lost track of time but I hooked up with Brian and another station around 8:30 local time so, Ellen, you need to hang in there.  3710 is a good place for a QSO as the ghetto is not for the faint of heart.

I hooked up with K6PJB later on so as bad as things are, there is always something out there.

Hi Jack.

I've considered 3710, and even 3725 (where the Canadians hang out), unfortunately, my powerline noise seems to spike between 3710, and 3750.  Making it rough to copy much of anything in that freq. range.  I copied you too Jack.  You weren't quite as loud as Brian was, but occasionally you'd get up to Q5 copy.  It was nice to hear some AM outside of the ghetto.  I'm hoping to build a loop antenna when the SX-96 arrives (possibly tomorrow), so I can null out the powerline noise.  The noise cancelling antenna has helped a bit (without it, neither you nor Brian were copyable), but I still had significant powerline noise. It was nice to hear somebody outside of the ghetto.
