Anybody ever try an FT-200 on AM?

They worked only marginally on SSB.  I used to have to repair the damn things from time to time.  I called them the Piss Po' One.  The tubes on circuit board configuration sucked, and the tuned circuits wouldn't stay in resonance.  What a P.O.S!

I have had a Tempo One since the early 70's.  It was my main SSB rig until I went to a modern ricebox a few years ago.   I think they are a good SSB transceiver for its vintage although a newer vintage Yaesu or Kenwood transceiver would be a better choice.   I never had any trouble with mine.   It still has the original tubes and has a good receiver.  However, they are no good for AM.  The carrier level changes all over the place, and the receiver stays in the same narrow band as on SSB when on AM.   I used it on AM but used a separate receiver until I good reacquire some real AM equipment.   My biggest mistake was to get rid of all the AM transmitters I used to have.
