I realize this is not ham radio related, but does anyone know of a 'BAMA' equivalent for appliances?

I have a Kenmore 80 series gas dryer that won't produce any heat, and I'm trying to troubleshoot it.  Tried the easy stuff like the ignitor, but no go.  It's good.

Any ideas about the manual (or does anyone have a schematic) ?

Thanks in advance !

Regards,  Steve

This website refers to a thermal fuse:

Steve Google on the sears model number.  Go to sears.com armed with that #.

Also look here:  ($)  http://laundry.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/kenmore/kenmore_clothes_dryer_product_list.html

Is the igniter glowing???   They are quite fragile, if busted would be obvious.
Update:  I'm assuming it is a non-pilot type.

Be careful in there!!   Smiley

Does the motor work??  I think most work the same.  Motor has to be running for the gas to work.  There is a switch circuit in the motor that turns on the gas.  Been awhile since I work on a dryer.

Steve..
I spotted this on the Kim Komando site.

http://www.komando.com/cool-sites/373072/free-user-manuals-and-guides-available-online

Not sure if it has what you're looking for, but the price is right.

Well, it's AMFONE to the rescue again!  Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!    Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

Several of the articles referenced a thermal fuse, and described it.  So I started hunting around inside of the unit on the exhaust output, and THERE IT WAS !  Tested open with a meter, so I hooked a clip lead across the device and - voila - all worked as expected.

So, it's off to "Sears Parts Direct", which does indeed have the part in stock.  I'll be picking up the replacement tomorrow.

I never could find a service manual, but this problem was fairly straight-forward, once I knew about the existence of the part and what it does.

Thanks again - truly appreciate the help !!!!  Steve

Steve

Check the vent to be sure it's clear.  Thermal fuses usually open from the temperature being too high.  A clogged vent will cause the dryer to run too hot.

Picked up the part, put it in and all is well.  Cleaned the vent pipe while I was at it, but there wasn't a lot of blockage anywhere.

The other possibility is that Sherrie put it on "Timed dry" on high with very little in there, and forgot.  Things get pretty hot when the clothes are completely dry.

I use the "auto sensing" mode which works quite well.
