Neither are hams and so far they resist getting interested in a license, but one is an experimenter and likes AM for technical reasons. The other is a SWL with a 150 FT long wire and an old Hallicrafters general coverage rig out in the boonies. He hates sideband because of '#$%^ quacking noises plugging up the shortwave bands', but then who needs a better reason? Personally I don't hate SSB, just don't really care much about using it for fun.
