If you ever post or reply to messages on any of the QRZ.com forums, you now have to do one of those CAPTCHA image verifications before sending the message.

I despise those things.  Usually there is at least one character that is so ambiguous that I can't read it correctly.  A few times I have given up after trying several times and never getting it right.

I suppose that is one way to cut down on their message volume.

I just posted a message up there and I didn't any image verification. Maybe they think you're "bad".

I checked a little while ago, and it's gone.  There is a thread on the subject in one of the forums.  Evidently it pissed off too many people and they removed it.

CAPTCHA tests usually have a provision for visually-challenged users to take an alternative form of the test, and I recommend we lobby qrz.com to offer that option.

Maybe they could make it audible.  It sends a few characters in Morse code and you type in those characters.

audible is bad news. they seem to have a wole bunch of audio tracks jumbled up, like the letters are! which is which?

I agree with Steve.   I used to post to eHam fairly often (actually for the first time in weeks I posted something there today) but am rapidly getting to the point that I don't even look at it.  It and qrz which I never liked are both honey pots for trolls and a few self-appointed know-it-alls.

Very true Rob. These types of "forceful personalities" seem to emerge in many places, even friendly neighborhood barbecues. I think the effect gets magnified with internet forums, even to the point of sounding like a 6th grade recess period with the usual "OH YEAH?"   "YAH!"  exchanges, which at this point, most sane people find pretty amusing. Fortunately the AM Bulletin Board has no ego or alpha male issues whatsoever.

As for the image verification stuff, I really struggle with some of those. When I get one right the first time, I feel like I should win a prize or something...

Quiet Frankly, this board has far exceeded both QRZzzzz and EHambone as sources of amateur radio information.

And it's all because of the people who populate it and the hard work of 'INR and the moderators.

I think you could ask any Amateur Radio related question (and quiet a few other topics as well!) here and get a reasonable realistic answer or source within 24hrs, no flames, no lids, no kids and no space cadets... uh oops.

I really never do go to E-ham ever, and rarely to Q.R.Z. for a quick call look-up. Why bother? It's all here and well done to boot.

EHambone, QRZzzzz.com, QTH.com and similar boards are populated largely with appliance op types commenting on the merits of the latest slopbucket or 2m CB gizmos, G5RV's, or seeking advice on what radio to buy or how to construct a dipole antenna.

They serve their purpose, even if just one comes over an learns a little it's worth it....
