Hi All,
Just doing a little dreaming here Roll Eyes........
Which of these units would be easier to convert to 160/80 meters? Assume that they both start on the same BC frequency and we want to easily change between bands.

With stock components and configuration I bet the 20V3 will more easily tune to 160.

Past that you're on your own.

No direct experience, but the reason I take a guess is that the specs on the 20V3, IMHO take it through 2Mc. I don't think the RCA provides that much range with its existing components.

The collins rig requires rewinding coils for both the oscilliator and buffer(not hard) and fussing with the padder cap(s) on the load side of the tank....A little rewiring of the octal crystal socket and it will take a hammy xtal...Some models have an rf choke in the final that is resonant on 160...The RCA has a fixed cap/ slug tuned coil final that will tune 160.   Both of these rigs have too much coil in the tank to tune 75 meters easily but it can be done...I haven't tried to band switch a BC rig......yet..
