A friend sent me this in email:

Take a look at this pig.

This thing was shot near Lake Falcon, Texas. An old farmer was pumping water near

the lake with his truck when it came out to get a drink. Maybe the next time

you are wandering around on the ranch at night, you will be a little more

cautious when you hear or see pigs.

I dunno, guys...There's been an awful lot of 'sensational' Photoshopped
pictures floating around the 'net.. I'd be sceptical about what seems to be a one-ton hog living in the wild. You'd need something more serious than a 30-06 to take that thing down and I don't think that good old boy was carrying around a .375 mag elephant gun.

I kind of thought it was BS myself, but I threw it up here anyway to see what youse guys think. Grin

7OF, I caught that with the truck right away myself.

I took a couple of minutes this morning and found this, for what it's worth.

Hello All,

The truck in the pix appears to be a '63 Jeep J Series. They were popular in the military.
As far as beliving the pix, I am not gulable by any means, but I refuse to right it off as BS off the bat.
My next door nieghbor rights off anything that I say as BS. Except his TVI of course.

Thank You,

The truck is a Toyota FJ-series Land Cruiser.  Very popular in Australia and not imported here (in that form).

Yeup, it's a right hand drive truck, based on the rear view mirror pointing at the right side of the interior.

Presuming the image isn't flipped, of course.

I just love these kinds of mysteries. When I see a shot like this, I always try to look for signs of a fake. The old 2001 shot with the guy standing on the World Trade Center with the jet in the background is a perfect example.

Anyway, at first I thought the hog shot was a fake too, but after looking at a full-size version, it appears real.  Notice the sun shadows are correct. Also, the chain shadow is where it should be. The shadow "bump" in the chain follows the truck's ridge, if you look closely. The hog has the same kind of wood chips? on it as on the ground.

There's other subtle signs too.

But like some solutions, there may be a glaring clue that gives it all away...Can anyone give any technical reasons why it appears faked? (other than the sheer size of the hog)

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.

When I was a kid we had a farm about 6 houses down the street and the farmer had a hog that size. We were more afraid of it than the farmers rock salt loads in his shot gun. Chris Henry was his only hit and word spread fast. But that hog could suck down a pail of food in seconds.....or eat a little boy.

I can't believe the doubt about a feral pig this size!  We have black bear in Arkansas that will run from these beasts, and pigs a lot more massive than any black bear in AR that I've ever seen.  I live in the backwoods north of the big city with 30 acres of wooded area just that I own, and can tell you they come around.

Every time my wife and I set out on the 4 wheelers, I always carry a big gun, either a 10 gauge magnum with slugs, or a 7mm WIN magnum.

Y'all come on down for an nighttime adventure on the old trails out here in the back woods!  You'll love it if you're into that sort of thing.

I wouldn't look Zank's old pig in the eye for fear it would break down the pen and eat me. Yup right up there with messing with a bear but without the claws just that giant jaws.
As kids we never made it to that side of the farm but once his son took us kids over to see it eat. It left a lasting impression in my young mind.....like a B61 nuke
