Reminds me of what an old CB'er friend of mine in high school used to say when asked about the proper way to run a station. He woulkd always say... "YOU GOTTA BE LOUD !!!!:

He's not too far from here. Only about a 15 minute ride down a hill and into Bristol. I've personally never heard him on the air. Bristols' really in a hole elevation wise and surrounded by big hills, even worse than I am, so it's not to surprising to here someone from that area tootin' the QRO horn. Shoot, most of the time I'm stuck running a few amps or RF, Wink, into the wire just to keep over the crashes, but my antenna needs some serious work.

I have to agree with Joe on this one however. Having a QSO with someone you can barely hear isn't much fun at all.

He does live up to that. I have worked W3IZ and he does put out a pretty strapping signal. however his audio (with Heil mike) is a bit hyellowie!

Life is definately too short for QRP!! No one likes getting a headache digging a piss-weaker out of the mud! Especially if they are guilty of the "first rule of the piss weaker":
"the weaker they are, the longer they talk". This is especially bothersome with current crappy band conditions!

Never waste your time bringing a knife to a gunfight! Grin Grin

Right, Slab.  That is known as the Law of Inverse Power to Transmission Length Ratio.  It goes like this:

Someone running 500 to 1000 watts works break-in;

Someone running 250 to 499 watts talks no longer than two minutes;

Someone running 100 to 249 watts talks for five minutes

Someone running 50 to 99 watts talks for ten minutes

Someone running 6 to 49 watts talks for twenty minutes

And someone running official QRP of 5 watts or less talks long enough for you to go out and cut the lawn and will still be talking when you have finished. Angry

Herb,
       I was in QSO with two stations onetime on 160M AM. The PW one was running 2-3 watts from Maine. He keyed up for 45 minutes, and then expected to be heard by the Urine-Peeins who we were testing with at the time.

Dream on! He didn't bring a Bowie knife to a gunfight, but rather a plastic fork!

Herb,
That is the perfect description of 51w Phred (KA2DZT)!! He has revamped the audio in his rig, and now he is down to 49w. I have timed him at well over 20 minutes! You definately nailed that one right on the head Grin Grin

Regarding 51 (now 49W) Phred, KA2DZT's activity on 75 Meters:

If he wants to have fun in this man's land
He better get Mr. 6146 and Mr. 813 to start shaking hands!

Or, he could invite over Mr. Beastly Sixten to set up housekeeping in his shack, Joe Tongue .

Or when you finally get tired of straining to hear them, you simply strap them, squash them like a bug and get the QSO moving again. Hopefully they will EVENTUALLY get the message and use a transmitter that better fits the operating conditions at the time.

Low power, piss-weak stuff is fine when the bands are quiet, like late afternoon / early evening. But give it up to even think about it friday or saturday nights on 75m!
Its a serious gunfight, dont come unarmed!! Grin Grin

Just another thought for KB1NVG:

Be wary of what you brag about, Whenever you think you are big and bad, there is
ALWAYS someone else out there that is bigger and badder, and you never know when they may "call you out" to a duel!! And you never know when this may happen.

Whatever the hobby interest is, when you think you are the top dog, there is always someone else waiting to kick your butt! Always make sure that you have enough ass to back up the mouth!!

My first thought when I read the bio was, "This guy is probably a pissweaker." Ever notice the real big logs don't have to talk or brag. Their signals do the talking. KAYMOAN!
