Has anyone tried one of these?

http://www.flex-radio.com

Right now I'm only interested in the rcvr only version since I would like to have a modern receiver among all my old tube rigs.  It really sounds great, in particular since it will run under Linux too.

I am however concerned about the typical noise a computer can generate.  They did tell me a good flat screen monitor will eliminate most all of that.

Would really be interested in hearing from anyone that has one or has used one.

Brian:
Go up to the "Search" function at the top of the screen and put in SDR-1000. You'll find several past topics on the SDR-1000. Most recent thread was August 31th in QSO section. I'm hoping Santa brings one for Xmas. I know Larry, K2LT and Art, K3XF, both members here, have them.

Thanks Pete!  I should have tried a search before posting this...  I'll do that now.  Good to hear some other here have them.

Has anyone tried [a Flex-Radio SDR-1000]?

IMHO, the receiver only is rather expensive, when you can get the transciever for little more, and you can even send PW AM with it.

I keep going back and forth on whether to get one for myself.

I look forward to hearing what you think about it.  I probably won't get one for another month or so since I've already got so many irons in the fire.

These guys have put together a $23, 40 meter only SDR receiver that uses the flex software. Looks like a cheap way to play with this stuff. The hardware is amazingly simple.

This looks like something great, with one quibble.  Something like that screams PORTABLE!  Yet, alas, it's not usable with most or all laptops.  Grumble.  Anyone know of a sound i/f for the USB Port?

It looks like it was conceived and designed here in the US.  Where is it manufactured?

The Sound Blaster EXTIGY USB External sound card has been blessed by FlexRadio Systems to work well. Discontinued from retail shelves, but still available from Sound Blaster Store sales on Ebay.

That's good to know.  Maybe they're working on a USB solution to he laptop/soundcard situation.

I knew there was likely a solution to that.  Good to hear.

The features (both rcvr and tx) are almost too good to be true!  I particularly like the monitor functions on receive.
