Glenn,
I don't get into shooting little animals either but when you spend a pile of time getting a garden growing without weeds and something comes along and eats everything down to the ground you will change your tune.

All my wifes herbs are on the back deck this year.  Last year half of them were eaten by a varmint.  Don't know what but it doesn't matter.  This year I got them covered, electronically using an outdoor motion sensor and an audible alarm.  It's been triggered once by deer.  Chase them away.  Herbs are doing AOK.

lots of people enjoy hunting, and look forward to it,
right buddly?  with me and varmits messing with
my house,me etc. - its nothing personal, just good
bye to pest, and a good sense of relief its gone . .

to the topic, i've heard people sensitive to msg. it
doesn't seem to bother me. if i remember right,
its grown in a bacteria strain. the msg helps partially
digest your food (and YOU) to make it more tender.
i can't believe it can be good for you though . .

Right Dino.

Most states need more deer hunters anyway. Population control is getting harder. This year in Ohio I'll be able to take 7 deer if I use all the available tags. Unfortunatly, my family can only consume 2 over the course of a year. My big eaters have grown n' gone !!!

Deer repellants work well and most are non toxic. They need re-applied after a few downpours or a hard rain. My 35 X 75 garden has done well and I lose very little to the animals. The repellants and a good .22 work well. Helps save on the dog food too.

Another non-kill great idea! Thanks!.. Someone once told me that leaving a radio on tuned to a talk show works very well at keeping the deer away. Think I'll give that a try, except to use the motion sensor so the light and radio go on at the same time. That will scare dem deers away fer sure...

back to topic... I've also had bad reactions to MSG in the past. I remember back in my JN days, eating some chinese take-away once where I had extreme difficulty breathing!.. mom rushed me to the emergency room. I don't know if these days they're using less of the stuff or my alergy has gotten better..

Buddly's comment about the deer he could take
this season if he filled his tags gave me an idea.
I wonder if churches and charities that give meals
to homeless people would accept venison?
Seems like a good idea.  If hunters
know that meat won't go to waste they might be
encouraged to fill their tags. The deer harvest
would be kept up and places that provide
meals would save money they'd otherwise
spend on store bought meat.  In years past,
we'd always fill our tags and extra meat
would quietly be given to old folks
and families that were down on their luck.

And venison's good for you, too.  It's lower in fat
than beef and full of protein and deer haven't
been fed steroids and God knows what else the
way the cattle in feed lots are.

Fry it.  Marinate it.  Make stew with it. Whatever.
Venison is good for you.

Share the Bounty

There are two organizations in Ohio fighting hunger by helping hunters donate a portion or all of their venison to folks who need it.

The Division of Wildlife wishes to thank you, the Ohio hunter, for making a difference by donating your venison to the hungry of our state.

Sportsmen Against Hunger

This program helps share nature’s bounty with the hungry. This program is active in all 50 states of the U.S. , in parts of Canada , and in several other countries around the world.

Deer hunters wishing to help fight hunger and homelessness may donate venison to Ohio food pantries by telephoning 1-800-WILDLIFE. Deer meat will be accepted during any of the Ohio deer seasons.

• Call for drop-off locations 1-800-WILDLIFE

Any butcher interested in participating in this program may contact us at 1-800-WILDLIFE.

Yeah, that was a good Net session last night.

Some nights the Net guys are in rare form and everything
just clix. Funny Net stuff for sure.  Dave, I caught your suggestion
about someone holding a nightly Net series of talks ...   - I don't
think anyone got it...

BTW, that distorted FM net guy who makes comments is a scream.
He's like a side kick on the Johnny Carson Net who laughs
and makes unintelligible comments to everything. Part of the
splendor. Kinda like the Net swisher.

I'm just getting over a Net cold and still dim-witted, so was a
better candidate/fodder for checking into the Prostate Net up
the band.

Yep, nets are part of the American heritage and are a vital
part of our net existance. Nets are needed, nice, necessary
and naturally occuring in nature. Support your local net.  Be a
net control and be all you can be.

Well 2 new ground hogs moved into the back yard. Last night one played trap chicken. My daughter watched him run through the trap and set it off
he got away. Wish I had the BAs to shoot them. maybe I should give the 75 pound compound bow Antenna launcher a try. That would take some skill pegging the little bas$$ards to the ground.

15 to 20 yards outta do it. Practice a bit on a ground target and you'll be amazed how effective these new bows are.

Bud,
one hole is 15 feet from my daughters window and the other is about
40 feet from the house under my old 78 Firebird. I could get a good shot off when they go in the back yard near the woods. Wish I had a little cross bow but a 12 gauge with bird shot would be more satisifing.

Make sure the window is OPEN before you take that shot !!!
Believe me......... I know !!!

I have a great shot out the back upstairs window at my neighbor's garden. Killed 3 so far. Mrs. Meade (83) chases 'em with a shovel. When I kill one she's makes cookies for the family.

Good neighbors make life a bit easier!!!

Mrs. Meade must be pretty fast. I walk across the window and they take off like a shot. My Dad got one with a shovel but it was trapped inside the fence.  My neighbor behind the house is about 250 feet away so have to aim low.
