The 2023 AM Rally preliminary results are tabulated.  This year's Rally was somewhat different that previous Rallys.  We had the most foreign countries logged, and the most contacts on the higher bands.  This, of course, was due to the higher sunspot activity, and thus the higher bands were open.

80 Meters was still the most popular band, however 10 meters made a very good showing, along with 40 meters.

The IC-7300 was BY FAR the most popular transmitter.  In fact, Icom in general was the overall most popular commercial brand.

The full report and complete details can be found at:

A summary version of the results follow.  Click the link above for the full details:

Thanks, Steve, and everyone else who contributes to making this excellent event possible. I'm not a contester — I've never participated in a traditional HF contest in my life — but the AM Rally is more than that: it's a way for an underappreciated and often outright denigrated group of outliers to stand up and wave our banner. I'm glad for the chance to be a part of it!

This was my first Rally with a real 40 meter antenna. I hadn't given it much thought before, but now, looking back at my log, I see that 58% of my contacts were made there, as opposed to 35% on 80 meters. It's hard to be scientific about it — was it just happenstance? — did I spend more time there? — but I figure that the 40 meter band's more persistent propagation throughout the daylight hours was a factor, as well as the fact that 80 meters gets crowded toward evening: a condition which doesn't favor PW stations like mine. I had fun on 10 meters, although I only made a few contacts there — probably because I was only running 25 watts into a fiberglass vertical. I'm thinking of putting up a dedicated 10 meter antenna in time for next year's Rally. Foreign DX in the Rally — now that would be cool!
