Looks just like the racks we used at Emerson Network Power for the Telecom -48VDC power systems!

Think the thing is that racks that do not have back rails or sides are generally considered to be relay racks.  Today they are popular choice for network switches and network cable patch panels. Enclosed racks with sides usually have back rails so when you install equipment on slide rails the back of the slide attaches to the back rail in the rack, but have also seen many relay style racks that are eight to ten inches wide that have rails on the back too but you would have an issue installing any long items like servers in them.
Over the years stacked and worked with way too many racks both in IT and Broadcasting, one good thing though is that its always supplied me with a never ending source of racks, hardware, shelves and slide rails so we are heavily into the rack life style around here!
Good to see that you are becoming a convert, rack mounted equipment always looks better in a rack.

In the spirit of full disclosure: I do not like racks!

I'm using the relay rack because whenever I had "regular racks" I could never get to the jacks
in the back!! And, I never had the space to leave an aisle behind them either!

Also, I do not like screwing gear into the rack either!!

Everything there is actually on a shelf.
Rack shelves I like so far.
If I need to pull some gear out, easy-peasy!

I think I have worked out a plan for what will be essentially vestigial rails
left and right to do the slide in/out bit... unless I suddenly run into a supply
of suitable shelves on the cheap...

If I need rear rails, these aluminum racks are bolted together and even the mfr offers
them with 4 pillars - just more aluminum to bolt up! Cheesy

Someone came up with a scheme where they flip the angle pieces that form the feet
and ran structural aluminum stock front to back bolted through to the upside down feet
and with the extra height added by that put on heavy duty casters! Ends up being very
close to zero clearance...

(nice looking shack!)
