Phil,

Does the RSP's latency occur BOTH on audio and the spectrum scope (simultaneously) or is the scope closer to real time and the audio more delayed?  Thus, an internal soundcard would help.

I could live with an audio delay, but not a transmit bandscope delay...

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.

I'll chime in really quick with regard to the RSP's time delay since I pair it with both CW and AM transmitters.

It's been my experience that the audio delay is >1 second. After I finish keying my message and then reach for the antenna relay/mute switch, I hear the last dit from my sending. So, AM break-in would be an issue. Mostly everything out this way is roundtables so it works here.

I can't speak to the scope delay though. Dunno.

This is too funny:

I was listening to a RSPdx video doing a demonstration of various features. They tuned into the ham band and there was my NorthEast AM friend Bill, W1LLY holding court...  Grin

Tom,

With regard to audio and band-scope sync I'd say they are very close. But without actually testing ....who knows. Audio delay is very easy to spot (hear)...visual sync, hmmm

I run a 3885 24/7 channel on YouTube. It's an RSP1A on SDRConsole. You'll get an idea how the audio and band-scope match up. That lash up uses VAC and it does seem that the band-scope and the audio are slightly out of sync.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZGvY988PhjS4udxUNN5Vyw/live

I attached two images from my Flex 5000. You can tell a lot about a signal when you look in close to the carrier over a narrow frequency span with a tight resolution bandwidth. With the Ke9ns software, the Pan adapter and water fall can be magnified .5X, 1X 2X 4X 10X 20X 40X 100X. In the images, Bandwidth is 8 Khz, and yet the pan adapter at 100X spans about 700Hz.

The Hallicrafter running AM LSB has bad 60hz modulation on both sidebands. Can also see 120, 180 hz either side. Since this is running AM, on the LSB beyond 200 Hz you can see the voice.
Copying this guy, my subwoofer rumbles pretty good at 60 hz!

The Af67 is on the VFO, and after keying it moves up a bit. There is also some hum modulation. The Elmac drives the big Meisner with an 813 final.

My point, here, are the new SDR Play gizmos discussed capable to doing a narrow sweep either side of the carrier when the receiver overall is set to 6 or 8 Khz bandwidth?

The Flex 1500 should be able to do the same thing as my 5000.

Jim.

Yes, they do.  It is completely dependant on the software used.
