I recently acquired a Ranger and have been going through a process of re-capping and "unfixing" some things from a previous owner.  Somewhere along the line the PTT circuit as shown in the manual was added.  It works OK in the phone position but I find that the PTT must be activated to operate in CW mode.  This doesn't seem right and before I dig in and try to "unfix" this mod I would like to get some feedback from some other Ranger users.

Thanks,

Hey Russ,

    Not sure either, The function sw SW4 will remove screen
"E" from the Mod. tubes witch is gud. Also sets AC to the
TR relay jack.. Turns on the VFO OSC and Buffer.

    Pretty complex if you just the the name "Ranger".
Ranger or Ranger 2? Have the Bias Board? Sounds Normal
to me but have not encountered an UN-modified Ranger
in quite some time.

    Need a few more more details to formulate a
better response...  The "Ranger" evolved over the years.

    SW4 (Function) did as well (Evolved).  SW4 also
shorts out the Primary of the Mod XFMR.

    Anyway I think your gud..

Dan;

Thanks for the reply.  This is just a straight Ranger not the Ranger 2 and it does have the keyer/bias module.  From what I can trace from the schematic it looks like the mod breaks the key line to SW4 so I think needing PTT activated for CW is necessary.  This just didn't make sense to me and just want someone else to verify.

That's the way my similar Ranger works.
