Hi All,
Wondering if anyone can I.D. this add on product detector? Looks like a manufactured kit, could be HB, but it really looks too neat for that. Uses a 6AK6 pentode.
It works, but is a little quirky. Sometimes I get a regenerative effect ranging to a full out squeal to motorboating on voice peaks. I can also run the RF gain down to about three quarters up and use the BFO as usual with seemingly normal gain. I'm not too sure at this point if I want to keep it or just back it out of the circuit, since I rarely listen to SSB anyway. Any ideas or info is greatly appreciated.

Phil

Maybe open it up and trace the circuit?

I've never seen anything like it, but one look inside will tell you pretty quick if it is homebrew or not, I would expect.

I will try to trace out the circuit, might be handy for others who may run into it.

However, I did figure out the regeneration problem... TUBE SHIELDS! DUH!!

Working smoothly now.

Most of the time, it's the simplest bonehead mistakes and forgetfulness that usually ends up biting me in the @$$.

Had a similar experience on a SP-600 recently. I'll not get into that fiasco at this time though!

73 & Merry Christmas,

Pic of the innards would be nice.
Might show if it was actually a homebrew or some commercial product...
