I got this OO report today.

Have to admit, I was elated.  Usually it's "You're 30 kc wide" or "splattering all over the band" or whatever.

This guy was really great!  Nice to know the OO program works both ways.

I was operating the new SiC rig from Rattlesnake Island on 40 meters at the time of the report.

Hi Steve,

As they say, "suitable for framing"!  Great that this individual reached out with something positive.

So what the latest as far as getting the CREE FETS working and optimized in a Class E design.

Never thought I would see a positive OO report on an AM station.  Fantastic!

Terrific Steve!

It is a very rare occurrence in this time for someone to actually send a complement. Like most people with any semblance of power, it goes to their heads and they forget what it is really all about and continually try to push their own agenda.

It is good to know that there are still some people out there that "get it", still have some joy, and are not so jaded that they can acknowledge the good in other people as well as the bad. WA4SQM seems to be one of those people, Thank you Mr. Edwards for being fair, it is refreshing to hear that not all is as dire as it seems. You can tell that the "power" has not gone to his head.

I am convinced that a "good operator report" can ONLY be received with WA1QIX involved..  Wink

Class A operators only...

Those good reports are really something to be pleased about.

Anyone can make a loud, legal, intelligible signal that sounds like a 1950s trans-Atlantic telephone call.

It takes a lot of extra work to be so clear and good sounding that an OO wants to affirm your work. That level of quality signal is something I am still working towards and will be working towards for some time.

Very nice Steve. You should be proud. Tnx for your nice write-up.
Another nice OO I saw on this board for an AM qso was to Paul, wa3vjb.
He's always Inviting SSB ops to try AM.

My only OO came as a Novice. Tried as much as I could with a DX-100 using a 3740 rock. Nobody heard me until the OO came in the mail. I was 599 on 7430.  Tongue

Back to point Steve, good thing you were on 7285 instead of 7295. I have observed more than one person running AM on 7295 where my pan adapter showed significant USB energy up to 7303 Khz.

Nice that a loud and clean transmission was acknowledged. Being clean is key since that PEP number is not so important. Lots of folks broaden out from overdrive long before the 1500 watt PEP rating is reached. With nighttime QSB varying +/- 20DB over several minutes, there is no way to tell if someone is a db or 2 over the limit. It is far easier to see a problem with a strong cruddy signal, than it is with a strong clean signal.

While not an OO report, I did get an email the other day after a conversation on 40 meters.  He said that I was over 20 KHz wide on peaks.

I didn't reply, but I wanted to explain that I was operating a mode called "AM" or amplitude modulation.  It is wider than single sideband (SSB).

Gee, I never got one like that, Steve.

Think I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter. And make believe it came from an OO....   Grin

I'm gonna write words, oh, so sweet
They're gonna knock me off my feet
Kisses on the bottom
I'll be glad I've got 'em

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.
