Maybe not: hams like me who've had one for a while probably realize that it's nothing special. I'm moving to North Carolina soon, and I'll just take whatever "4" call the FCC gives me.

I feel the same way. My call is long but why change. I don't think the vanity demand will really increase much. Hams are cheap but not that cheap and not so many are both cheap and vain.

It is nice to have something 'free' from the government, but just remember we are still paying for a share of it through distributed incremental cost increases for services and industry.

IIRC, the vanity fee was something like 25 or 50 dollars for a 10 year license. I don't think the cost kept very many people going for a custom call. It didn't for me. The tough part was finding an available 1x2 that I liked.
