Hello i am testing a 30L-1 amplifier and i have a couple of question to ask:

Normally a use low power (10-20W) exciter to tune the amp for the correct tune and load setting.
Then i go for the nominal exciter power (about 70-80W) to make the final tuning  of the amplifier for maximum power output.
Then i switch to ssb and go for qso. If i want to use it in AM , i always tune for maximum power at full exciting power, then i decrease the carrier to have 100W of output power from the AMP without touching load and plate.

With the 30L-1 i found that the maximum output power does not coincide perfectly with plate dip and zero setting on tune position of the amplifier.

My question is if i can continue to tune the amplifier for the maximum output or is better to follow the zero in tune position and dip of plate current? in this case a loose 100-150W of output power.

It sounds like C18 is out of adjustment. Tune for
Max out as you have been and try adjusting c-18 for meter zero in
the tune position. See  page 4.2 in the Military Manual.

You want TM 11-5820-532-15.pdf
