Hello: I recently acquired a nice HA 410 Lafayette transceiver, has anyone used one of these, and has anyone modified one of these or do they need any mods?

I am looking to replace the audio 6GW8's and some of the caps that might be leaky.

Any other good things to do to this radio?

No mods are needed. You might position a suck-out fan on the top of the case. Input caps to the grids of the modulation/audio output tubes, if they're original, should be replaced. Originals probably had a 5 or 10 year life expectancy. General cleaning; check the power supply components; it gets very hot under the chassis.

Pete: Do you know if there is or supposed to be a parts list in the manual. The manual that came with my HA410 dose not have any.

No, unfortunately, Trio never generated a parts list for either the HA-410 or HA-460. I have the Lafayette microfiche for all service parts but it's really not a parts list and service part numbers won't help you.

I believe Stephine - WX3K uses one of those on a 6M net she runs.  You may want to contact her and see if she has done anything to hers.  I believe she is very pleased with the rig.

A trick we used with the MC-50 years ago was to slide a toilet paper roll (without the paper) over the head of the mike. You could vary the talk power of the mike by sliding the roll further up or down. For greater audio excursions, use a longer paper roll.
