Greetings
As I await my Drake R4C to return from Sherwood Engineering, I am planning the installation of the "Twins" operating position. I plan to use the TX4C/R4C in the traditional configuration.
According to the manual, it refers to the OSC injection and Carrier level cables to be used as "Low Capacitance" cables. Does this mean like RG-62, RG-58 etc?
Cabling was not included with the radios.
I remember the SB-301/401 radios would not work unless RG-62 cable was used and I have some incase it will work on the Drakes.
Thanks,
Billy

I have used RG-62 for making Drake 4 line twin cables and it has always worked fine.

When aligning Drake twins I cable them together which provides a more accurate alignment than using the "loads" in the alignment procedure.  The loads provide a reasonable alignment point and is useful for a shop doing work that doesn't have both of the customer's twins but for the owner it makes more sense to align them under the actual conditions of usage.

Your T-4X will be much happier if you put a small fan on the back or top to cool the finals.

Use RG-62 cable. RG58 or 59 could be very problematic even for very short lengths.

Thanks guys, again this place is like the "Helpful Hardware Man".
I have several 2' ft. long pieces of RG-62 that were sent to me by a friend
who has a large spool of it, I forget who but in case he is a member
here, I send my big time thanks! I am jazzed to finally have these radios
for use not only for the Vintage SSB Roundtable, but for AM which they
are very well suited for. I owned a B-Line setup some years ago but at the
time I wasn't so anchored in my passion for vintage gear, so they went away
along with my S-Line. What is fun and somewhat unique about my operations
here at N6YW, is that 90% of the gear I own and operate was made before
1961, the year of my birth. The Drakes & the Flex 5K are the exception.
So, aside from the Ranger/HQ-110 band cruisers, the Drakes allow me to go
multi-mode with great sounding AM on the fly on all bands.
This will be a real treat. I will let everyone know when the R4C is back from Sherwood
and give a report on it's performance. It should be a real Pistol!
Thanks, de Billy N6YW

Hey Billy,

Which Sherwood modifications did you get?
If you can, let us know how the performance is
with your "new" R-4C.

I have a C-Line that needs some Sherwood updates.
