D-104 on a Disposable Radio

I don't know this ham, and this is certainly not a personal comment.  I have a gut level bias against anything having to do with plastic disposable radios in general, but putting a D-104 on one -- the mic is at least 4 times bigger than the radio -- just seems so basically WRONG on so many levels

I had a D-104 hooked up to a computer through some pro gear for some time. I had to stop using it as it made me laugh every time I spoke into it.
It just didn't seem right using it there

One of my most complimented setups was a D104 fed 5 volts.   This was run straight into the mic jack of my laptop.   Speaker out fed a high level transistor iced series modulator.

NOBODY believed that it was a D104,  especially with the lack of screaming tonal quality and smooth freq response.

Replaced the battery and it got the familiar D104 sound.   I did turn the gain pot Way down (from almost all the way up to less than a quarter turn opened).

Does the input impedance of a darlington amp increase as the gain is turned up?   Only thing I could figure.
