so want to talk to a spacecraft?

I gather a few months ago a German AMSAT group detected this old spacecraft flying around the solar system, on the 11Ghz band.  The interesting thing is that SDR appears to be the means they want to communicate with it.  It seems SDR has some capabilities that I was not aware of
