I picked up a 50s vintage home brew amp running a pair of 813s in which the tank circuit inductor will either need to be repaired or replaced because the plastic form supports have rotted out and disintegrated. I noticed that Rich (W7SOE) has used the identical component in his 813s modulator/amp project which has been discussed here previously. I don't have a contact for Rich, so wonder if anyone can ID this part for me.

The pic attached is from Rich's project site.

Many thanks to all,

Jim

It's similar to the B&W 850 tank coil. If you do a web search on the 850 you'll see that there are notable differences, so perhaps it's a knock-off of the B&W.  Disintegration of the coil support rods is very common, and they can be repaired in a variety of ways using Lucite rods or other materials.  Do a web search for details.

It's a B&W 850A with a non-original 10 meter coil.

Thanks Darrel and Jim,

Rich's is, indeed, a B&W 850A. Mine is attached and appears to have the original 10 meter coil.

I wish it could have been a B&W 850/160 with the 23 turns instead of the 13 turns, but can't complain.

With all the difficulties I and others have had extending 80-10 amps to 160, I've decided to build a separate RF deck for it and my old Budd rack cabinet has the room for it.

Thanks for the help on this one.

Jim
