Just worked OK2OV at 1256Z.   Someone else was calling but he was too weak.

The path between the east coast and Europe is quite good right now (just about noon eastern time). The screenshot is a picture of Frank - I5KAP running 5 watts QRP and the YouTube link below gives an idea of how well he was heard here in Connecticut on the little converted Heath CB-1 Benton Harbor Lunchbox:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgOdEJyTAL8

After chatting with Frank I caught Alfredo - EA1BCS who was running about 20 watts with a Yaesu FT-950. Both signals were remarkably steady at around S-7. There are plenty of other strong signals up and down the band at this time.

Hi Rob –

I’m posting this at 12:40 PM EDT on Wednesday.    I don’t think today’s opening into EU is as strong as over the weekend;  this view was also mentioned by a few of the EU stations I worked today.    The SN is higher than on the weekend, but so it the A index.

Right now I hear a few weak signals, but nothing strong.

This morning I worked OK2OV, IW5EKR/M, OK1AKW, IZ5CML, G8NOF, and G3ZPS.

Henry IZ5CML had a very nice signal around 1506Z but I had to cut the QSO short as I noticed the screen current on my 5100B was intermittently dropping to about half it’s value.   A good “thump” to the top of the case “cleared up” the issue  Shocked…..  not a good way to solve the problem so I’ll be watching it…..

K3MSB,
Maybe you heard me (pe1mph) calling you. Smiley
I heard you a few times with cq.
Your signal were good: S9+
But conditions were yesterday much better!!

Later I had a qso on 29.040 with CT4RK in AM.
He is an AM lover, I have spoken earlier with him on 3705 khz.
Evenso he had a qso with W1IA on 3705 khz in AM some years back.

Hi Mark,

I would agree that it seems to have tapered down somewhat over the past 3 or 4 days. It always surprises me though because just when I think it has closed up, I encounter a signal from Dave M5AFD or Glenn G8NOF that sits there at S-9 +30 dB! Seems like you just never know what the 10 meter band is going do from moment to moment.

Henk, as I was tuning around I think I may have heard you. I could not pull the whole call out but heard the prefix "PE" just as the signal went into a deep fade.

I must have worked him right after you at 1258Z. He was weak but 100% copy. Very short QSO with Jarda on 29020.

Heard I5KAP running 5 watts a few minutes before.

Just worked OK2OV at 1256Z.   Someone else was calling but he was too weak.

Not to fear, the CQ World Wide SSB contest is this coming weekend. We'll probably SSB stations drifting above 29.0 all weekend.

Jarda was running 50W into a dipole and he wasn't very strong here.

After I signed with him there were one or two stations calling me;  I got "BCS" (according to my scribblings.....) so that was probably EA1BCS.  Henk you might have been in there and I guarantee if I heard you I would have called you!

Deep QSB was the order of the day, but all in all it was a GOOD day on AM!

Had some rain yesterday so background noise was lower last evening. Went hunting for JA but no joy. Heard a few on ssb.

Band was open to Texas in the 7PM East Coast hour. Band was open to Great Lakes from NJ as late as 20:45 my time. Worked a few on Advanced Modulation.

Not as much action in the SSB portion too. I don't think the band was as "open" as the previous night. I missed this evening's festivities (if there were any).
