Saw an SE-3 FA on eBay that indicated the product had been discontinued. Checked Sherwood's website, and sure 'nuf.  I suppose it was bound to happen ...

They possibly could have rode out the storm a little longer by lowering the price............about half!!!!!
Who would purchase something close to a kilo-buck to listen to a radio? Was there some earth-breaking technology inside? Apparently it was a very good unit. Never experienced the audio from a Sherwood.
The prices for used SE 3 will go up even more now.

I used an SE-3 for a while at my shack.  The audio was certainly superb, particularly in the synchronous detector mode.

They were targeting the SWL market - probably more than the ham market.

Probably the advent of the SDR into the mix hurt the SE-3 more than just about anything else.

That for sure, and the price was definitely getting out of hand.  I doubt this was ever a high volume item, and I'm pretty sure they were all hand built, so a hefty labor component in each one.  For a while, Rob stopped shipping them with the "bass boost" circuit because the inductor manufacturer either dropped the part or raised the price out of sight.

It is a very good box, though, if one can be found at a rational price.  And with the AR feature (or mod) works well in AM roundtables.  Doesn't require booting anything, and is unaffected by whatever happens in Windows update Wink

Of course, there isn't very much good AM listening on the SWBC bands anymore anyway.  Which is a shame.  Not a complete wasteland, but the heyday of SWBC riches around every corner is long gone ..

I bought the one that Steve tried out at a reasonably good price.  It's really great and makes my SP600 really sound good particularly considering the good quality AF amplifier that's built in

So, I wonder if the schematic will ever be released?
