Anyone priced Amphenol 80-MC2M 2 pin male microphone plugs lately? Everyone wants around 20 bux for them. They're
nothing special.

Having some Scottish blood, I prefer the term 'thrifty'.  Wink Anyone can throw money at a problem, the trick is knowing when it's really a problem.

Last I knew you could still get these from Newark and a few other sellers. Average price is more around $15 on ebay and elsewhere, still pretty steep for a plentiful connector. Some have gotten down closer to $10 recently. I found about a half dozen new ones with the female chassis connectors at Shelby a few years back in a box of junk for a buck or two each. A lot of my equipment uses them so I grab 'em up when I see 'em.

Next time you're at a hamfest, dig through some of those boxes of old hand mics. Quite often there'll be one or two sporting this plug, and you can get it for a dollar or so.

Are these the 2 pin ones that are just like the 3 pin and the 4 pin and the 5 pin, just 2 pins?? Like the ones used on most SSB boxes??

A buck or so at any hamfest?

Ten bucks seems insane.

Must be someone online with them for far less... or wait for ur next hamfest.
Maybe someone has a bunch here... that too.

EDIT:

Ah-ha. Looked it up. Amphenol is the older style not the new ones. So, what I would do is that if it isn't too difficult, I'd take out the old amphenol connectors and sub in the newer cheaper and more available style that is in common usage. See image.

I think the original has the pins offset somewhat and doesn't have a notch in it. May work.

Just tried a 2 pin one in my 32v That I got from the shack some time ago.  Didn't work.  Really is centered, not offset as the above pix shows.
Thanks for the heads up. More junk for the box, I guess.

I am pretty sure I have one that I could send you.  Let me know and I can send it out in tomorrows mail if you need it.

Hi Bear,

That's very similar to what I use.  The only difference is that I use the 4 pin style.  In going to that style, I use one of the pins as ground.  Much better than the shield going to the spring which goes to the set-screw and finally to ground.  On my Ranger, I took out and chucked the amphenol style and replaced it with the 4 pin style.  I believe the hole diameter was the same.  Pin 1=gnd, pin2=D-104 audio, pin 3 = high level ext audio, pin 4 PTT if you wanted that.  Can't beat that style!

This critter?

Yeah I saw prices headed up a few years ago and wondered why,  myself.

Still finding them in old-looking parts boxes jumbled in with old mics at hamfests.

Notice to Scottsmen and hams:
Today's $20 connector is yesteryear's $2 connector.
Today's $2 connector is something low MTBF and disposable.

Mr. GMS,

I use the 4 pin "modern" mic plug and jack combo as the replacement for the plug and jack combo on the Weller WTPC solder stations! The plugs they used on it were garbage and always go south. Cheesy

The TS440 kenwoody uses mo' pins, mo' pins...

--------------------

In case my earlier suggestion got lost, what I was saying is to *replace* the old and now expensive Amphenol mic plugs & jacks with the new and inexpensive type...

Radio Shack carries the 4 pin mike connectors. I think the chassis hole size is the same or close. Also popular stuff with the flea market connector vendors.
