I was going through surplus gear to get ready for the Ham fest this weekend. I came across a box and opened it up. A NEW Globe Matcher SR Antenna tuner. I forgot I even had this thing.
I thought you guys might like to see it.
An ODD feature is that you have two ladder line outputs. One for 80 to 40 meters and one for 10 to 20 meters.

Not odd at all. Two such outputs were common on certain tuner designs back then, some even today like the Z-Match designs.

Clark,
Is it a link coupled tuner or the typical Transmatch design with a balun on the output? I would image based on the vintage that it could be a link coupled deal.

Joe, I will take a pic of the schematic when I get home. On the dyno now at work.
I guess you have to switch the open wire line if you want to use it higher then 40 meters. Maybe a switch like I have.

Yep, The GLOBE MASTER 5000.
Is that just your pet name for it Clark? Because the front panel and manual both say Globe Matcher, which makes more sense. Sure is clean. Nice to see old gear like this that has survived the rages of time so well.

Its higher then that. Its rated to sit behind the the Globe king 500C. It says AM 500 watts Input to the final. Then it says 600 watts PEP on SSB/DSB. I was thinking about my friends GLOBE MASTER transmitter when I typed the thread Here is the Globe Master.. Its a 304TL rig modulating a 4-1000. http://www.arizona-am.net/PHOENIX/KB7OCY/index.htmlHere is the inside of the Globe Matcher SR. Not mine.. Just a pic I got off the web. Neat old tuner. Changing open wire line to switch bands would be a pain though. I guess I will stash it back in the closet. Maybe one day I will set it up with one of my Globe Champion 300's that I have. Doesn't look like it would handle AM at 500 watt input to the final (350-400 output).

Looks to me like it will and the manual says it will. I think the coils and caps are the same exactly ones used in the GK500 RF deck. On the small side but seem to work.

Never know till ya try it. Of course the antenna and feed line length will have something to do with it.

I like the Globe Master Transmitter better! From the pictures on the owners site, it looks like quite the rig. Very well done indeed. Joe, GMS

Ahh...
I Dunno. The manual says it is a "Globe Matcher Sr. AT-4". Must handle only 4 watts.
Also what is that replacement Vernier knob?
Cute unit. I'll take it!

Dan, I opened the box for the first time myself. So its as delivered. The box even has the shipping stamps from the 50s from WRL to a dealer in Canada and then back down to the states.
