Is there a date code within E.F. Johnson serial numbers? I have a first generation Ranger (Cathode keying) and it has a serial number of 62250 as near as I can read. Can anything be gleaned from this?

I don't know of a date code vs s/n but my 1st gen Ranger s/n is clearly 62466  (w/o xfmr taps for the keyer)
So....I would say that your s/n is likely correct.
It is not a -2 so for sure was a kit....and visually the bottom of the chassis confirms it....kaff....
But it woiks!!

Is there a source for blank Johnson serial decals? My 1961 Viking II needs one. Its the last year they were built with only 48 shipped.

If you only have 1 Ranger, is it a Lone Ranger ?
