It's the 21st and another doomsday bites the dust. Although, I just went to the store and the high winds are blowing the cold rain horizontally so it hits you in the face just right.  Angry

Diane just called and said water is coming down into the upstairs bathroom ceiling, I suspect rain is blowing into a roof mounted exhaust fan vent I put in earlier this year. First time we ever got water in there, no problems even during Superstorm Sandy or the noreaster the following week.

Really nasty conditions around here.  New London Ledge Light winds are clocking steady over 40 out of the SE, gusting to 50...with heavy rain.

Well I hedged my bets and waited until I was safe to add a little logic to the general fracas.  Grin

So where was the end supposed to come first? ...at the international date line?  at Mayan local time in the Yucatan?  Was the Earth supposed to dissappear as it rotated... the oceans evaporate in an advancing wall of nothingness at the rate of fifteen degrees per hour?..

Remember Y2K.... y..du..k.   As the New Year's celebrations rotated towards us around the globe,  did we catch on?  Hmmm?
Or did we admire all the corporate work we'd done and say, "well, of course there was no problem.. we'd yanked all the 8088 processors or whatever..."
"Ah, the vanity of man"

Would it really be just Earthcentric or would it be everthing evaporating at the same instant? .... and as posited, just what/ which instant.?

Merry Christmas to all you gangsta's out there and everywhere.

Oh, shoot: I forgot to mention that I called it off. My calendar was filled this month, and I told the Mayans that February would have to do.

The Mayan calendar did not include leap year. The end should have happened a long time ago.

Don't worry, my insurance agent sent me a wallet-sized 2013 calendar. That should clear things up for a while.

I watched "2012" last night. It seemed appropriate in a humorous way.

The Mayan calendar did not include leap year. The end should have happened a long time ago.

It was a counting of days, Sunrises, Moonrises etc....
Had nothing to do with our modern calendar of course.

Leap year is irrelevant.

13 Baktuns since the beggining, and the calendar just keeps going...

So far, MOST people's world did not end.

Funny, Our modern calendar ends every year on Dec 31st.  I've never heard anyone screaming about the end of the world (although a few might be wishing for a merciful end on the morning of the 1st!).

Ironic that when the same thing happens on a different calendar folks go all lunatic.

I'm sure there will be plenty of warning for the REAL end of the world, which folks will promptly ignore as a hoax...

That's it Ed. Who cares when the Mayan calendar ended or didn't end? Their civilization ended almost a 1000 years ago. FAIL! And the same for all those nuts who give this stuff any credence.

They screwed up the date.....   this is what will happen when the missing planet Nibiru passes by this year. I've got my sneakers ready for the mothership that will pick ME up. The rest of you, eat your livers.

Oh, by the way, Happy Festivus! !

One of my sons was quite disappointed in the way things turned out.  A local place had an End-Of-The-World party on Friday, and when the world didn't end they wouldn't refund his money.

There's always the "Transmitting of Grievances". But I think we get enough of that year round anyway.
