Al W1UX listed an Apache xmtr for sale here a couple weeks back and I bought it, driving up last Friday with friend Terry K7MPP to pick it up - 700 miles round trip. It was great meeting Al and we had nice weather for the trip. Before heading back to Virginia we stopped in nearby Clinton, CT for lobster rolls. Photos attached. The Apache looks great. I'm inspecting it now and hope to be on air with it soon.

Brad,
A week earlier and you could have attended the best Hamfest in the world better known as Nearfest!

You bought it from a good guy and I am sure you enjoyed meeting Al.

The Apache is a great transmitter.  If you want to do some audio tweaks they can sound superb.  Fortunately the mod iron is very good.  Then again some people like the original Apache sound.

Best of luck with the rig and I look forward to hearing it on the air.

They are good.  Martha and I just returned from a 10 day Maine vacation and we had plenty of Lobster roll.  Never can get enough of that.

Frank, your right, Apache's are plentiful but not so with Lobster rolls....

Yea, Joe, Just picked up another Apache a couple weeks back, sure wish it came with lobster rolls..............

You can always find cheap Apaches, I've had a bunch of them. But you can't get lobster rolls anywhere in Baltimore.  Cry  Cry

Great pics. That really cleaned up nicely after the fire and attendant water damage from the basement floor storage !!!! Shocked

Just kidding!!!!

we stopped in nearby Clinton, CT for lobster rolls.
Was that the lady down on the dock? She does a great job.
Next time you are in Killingworth stop by at the extreme east side and see how the simple people live

I wondered why the Apache smelled like smoke! Hi. Really, except for some dust it's quite clean inside. The mode switch is stuck on AM (I know, you're thinking that's not a problem) but I think a little lubrication might fix that up.

Yes, the lady at the dock does a nice job with the lobster.

Joe,

Nearfest is on my list. I think the drive last Friday demonstrates that a road trip to Nearfest from here won't be too tiring.

I don't believe this Apache has been modified in any way. Al gave me some literature on mods for the audio chain, which I will be reviewing. Looking forward to getting on air, probably 75m to start with.
