NOS Modulator MD5001/FRT-502

Hi guys, speaking of modulation tubes.....

I have a NOS MD5001 modulator. If I am reading the plate correctly it is the modulator for a FRT-502 transmitter. I have had this for about 5 years. It has a lot of iron and two GL-809 tubes.

This is one of those projects when I get around to it. Does anybody have any experience with this unit? How about a schematic or hook up diagram. This is a rack mount unit and has a few terminal on the rear, Modulation knob, 1/4 mic input and such. Really heavy ~90 to 100 lbs.

Searching the web over the past 4-5 years has not helped much...seems they were used by the Canadian Military.

I have seen the FRT502 transmitter. Its a nominal 100w output AM CW rig used on VHF. The final used a single 829B. Nick VE3OWV who is a curator at the Diefenbunker museum in Ottawa should be able to help you with a schematic etc. They have a couple of complete 502s there.
