Yesterday Bill, W3DUQ and I had a great telephone QSO.  The old boy is still sharp as ever.  His mind is working on lots of projects of interest and that's keeping him going in good style.

Anyone remember Don Landis old call when he lived near Lancaster, PA?  I know it was a K3 but that's about it.  We got talking about Jesse K3GKB and the phone QSO when Jesse called a Hawaiian telephone operator. Jesse was trying to get her to connect to Don!  For those that may remember that airing, it was memorable!

Bill was relating one of his first cars which was a Corvette.  He use to drag it at the strip and did a number on the motor.  When Bill tried to rebuild it, he said he put the rings in upside down!   Then came the 56 Chevy with the AF-67 mounted on the board in the front seat.

Best to Bill and nice that you got to chat with him.
Didn't know Don. Come to think of it, being isolated in tne north woods of Pa. In my 3YPI days I didn't get to know many civilized Pa. Easterners and Marylanders until later.

Don Landis was on quite a bit around the mid 60's.  I believe he went off to school and I lost track of him.
He talked a lot to Bill, DUQ, Dave, ZRF, Roger, FLE, Mark, VVG, George, YAM-later 3OW, Bacon, YPE and others.  I now remember his QTH.  It was Willow Street just outside of Lancaster, PA.   I forget what rig he used but it was very clean non compressed audio.

FCC has a Don Landis, WA3BJR. Last address was Jacksonville, FL. The license expired in 1998 and was cancelled in 2000. Google search for WA3BJR turned up this: http://www.qrz.com/db/WA3HDW/  It appears that this guy is WA3BJR's cousin. Also found this: http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/238488-What-s-Your-Sign?s=c28de8dee9f82bb198b30bc02e46e0d0&p=2418196#post2418196 and this: http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/287522-How-did-you-get-into-Ham-Radio?p=3025113#post3025113

Thanks very much Shelby!  Yep, that's the guy. I may drop his cousin a line.  Its a shame Don got out of the hobby.  Well, we have seen it happen before.  I looked up WA3BJR in my 1966 call book and it confirmed the Willow Street QTH.
Now who was I thinking of that was a K3 back in the same time frame  WinkHuh?

Sounds like Don had quite a transmitter: pair of 4-1000As modulated by a pair of 833As. I seem to think that I've heard his cousin Dave on the air a few times, since that call seemed familiar to me when I found it.

I got an great email from Don this afternoon.  Trying to get him to become licensed again!

More importantly, I was able to give him a phone number for Bill, W3DUQ.  I know Bill would be trilled to hear from him.  These guys were good friends and I believe Don's picture is on the NAAAM Christmas card picture that was taken up at Bill's during one of Bill's famous parties!  I know Chuck, K1KW was in the picture along with Dave, ZRF and other notable AM'ers!

Tom,

I think your pretty close.  Not sure if mine was mailed or given to me by Bill.   Since my parents would never allow me to go up to those parties, mine was probably mailed !!!!  My parents were very smart  Wink.

Maybe Steve knows for sure.
