Please give me your thoughts on using the HP 23 to power my Kwm2.I am thinking at the present to use the HP 23 it would take care of the HV, bias and filament and the use a seperate transformer  and choke for the B+.
Thank You, Jimmy K5CSU

The HP-23 is a good reliable supply.

But, it has several twist lock electrolytic cans that might need replacing.

Here are the specs (bottom of page):

I had an article published in the Collins Radio Journal a few months ago about converting the HP-23 to be used successfully with a KWM-2.  I can email you the article and some photos if you want.

Basically you gut the power supply except for the power transformer, remove the HV choke, replace the caps and diodes and add a voltage regulator circuit to power the screens on the final tubes.  Otherwise either the screen voltage is either too low (250 volts) or too high (300 volts) depending on how you wire it.

I also rewired the power plug on the supply to match the extension cord on the KWM-2.  It makes sense since you're rewiring everything else.  I also added a separate 6.3 volt filament transformer because the winding on the Heath transformer can't handle the 9+ amps of filament current that the Collins needs.

The circuit board I used may not be available any more, but you can lay out your own.

I use my HP-23 all the time with my KWM2-A and  great power from it (100 watts peak)

There is no need to go drilling and blasting.  The HP-23 will power the KWM-2 just fine.  You will need a little more scroat in the filliment supply.  The KWM-2 will put a strain on the HP-23 Filliment supply.  An additional benefit of using an external 6.3 or 12.6 VAC is it will leave the HP-23 to supply High voltages only taking a little bit of strain off of already weak transformers.

CW is just a narrower version of AM

I used an HP-23 to power an NCX-3 for years. Good old supply.  MM
