For those of you that still think that amateur radio is of no use in a disaster here's an article that you may find interesting:

For those of you that keep whining about "emcomm" and that live in Greene county NY or anywhere near it here's your chance to do something positive instead and provide some urgently needed assistance:

I think NY area above NYC all got hit big time compared to the rest of the northern states this time around. Maybe Vermont came in second?

SAM, is that you in the avatar?

Are the Green county volunteer hams using HF anywhere?

Its not me but its a screen shot from maybe the best sports movie ever made ... "Slapshot" starring Paul Newman, Strother Martin (Cool Hand Luke, etc) and the "Hanson Brothers" who were real hockey players and acted in this movie. My avatar is a screen shot of one of the brothers.  It bears a kind of resemblence to one of my high school photos and I like the fact that although he's been bloodied in a fight, he continues on.

Slapshot is one of those flicks that some people have seen 100 times.

Theres a youtube clip here that explains the avatar:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i_D6oQO6b8

Uh-oh... I live in Greene County. Double U Bear Two Greene County Radio! Cheesy

But I rode out the storm in Long Guy Land... not too bad here... except for that tree that fell on the neighbor's house from the property line... except for that.

Hoping that when I get back upstate that not everything is mangled. YIKES!

Things weren't too bad in "upstate" NY. Why, one restaurant even had time to add a drive through.
