Seem to be having an issue with my HQ-170 calibrator. I get a strong signal on 40M and 10M but nothing on the other bands. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Thanx and 73...Ken

Ken,

It sounds like your calibrator itself is OK if you can hear it on 10 meters it is working everywhere else (100 Khz. fundamental with harmonics).  Can you hear any signals on the other bands with an antenna?

Weird operation on a HQ-170 is often due to the 6C4 HFO tube, try another 6C4.

Thanx!!! replaced the 6C4 HFO and the 6BZ6 calibrator tube...solved the problem...strong signals on all bands and performance improved. 73

Ken,

Enjoy the HQ-170, it is a very good performing receiver.  If you do a realignment, it is critical to very carefully align the 60 Khz. final IF to achieve all of the performance the 170 can deliver.  It does an excellent job under difficult conditions on AM.
