You did a fantastic job restoring it!   It has been fun following your progress since your first post which was a bit discourage at the poor condition.  Smiley

Thank you Bill, i am proud of the result... more the radio is ugly, dirty and not working, more the final result is fascinating...
I have already started the restoration of an RCA AR-88 and i really don't know where to put all that radios after restoration.
I live alone in a flat in Florence (ITALY) and the guest room is dedicated to my ham stuff, but i have already reached the critic mass of radios...
Even if i have 20 years to retirement, i hope one day to have an house in the countryside with full sized dipoles and a big room for the shack .
In the weekend i will try to interface the SX-28 with the ART-13 (mute) because i think this would be a nice couple for my AM station.
It's incredible how good both are stable and are precise in tuning.
The SX-28 after 70 years of life is still capable of a precision of less that 5 khz in the scale and the art-13 even more...

ANDREA,

Congrats on doing a FB restoration job.  You can hardly recognize what you started with when compared to your completed restoration work.  I know you put a lot of time in bringing it to completion.  The look of the SX-28 is my favorite of all the Hallicrafters gear.  I have an SX-28 downstairs, its all original and need to be restored.  Your work has inspired me to get started on it!

One question, how do I translate the non English text that your are showing on your link?

Chuck,

Try a right click anywhere on the page and select "translate with live search".
It just worked for me.

Bud, I will try your suggestion again when I get home.  I am at a friends home and when I right click and sellect translate I think it is translating in Russian.  I better not change any of his settings.  I will try again tomorrow.

Just finished to start another project Smiley the Ar-88 restoration..
i am really curious to compare AR-88 with SX-28 and Superpro 200...

Yesterday evening i tried to copy a very weak MW broadcast.
I compared the SX-28 with Collins 390 , a modern Icom 735 and a new SDR receiver.

No one did the job considerably better than the other, the station was copyable with all
the receivers BUT even if it was very weak, the Sx-28 with the PM-23 speaker was more
pleasant that the ic-735 with internal speaker of the sdr with PC speakers or collins 390
with a Kenwood SP-230 speaker.

Ed took the words right out of my mouth.  It really looked like an uphill battle but now it is a showpiece.

Ok, how did you clean the chassis??
The IF cans?

What did you use

Did you take it ALL apart first??

Very very curious...

The chassis was at first washed in the bathtub . I used a degreaser with a paintbrush and the i washed very well until al grime was gone. Then after drying i used a metal wool (the same used in the kitchen to clean stoves) to make the metal bright. For if cans i polished them with CAR polish  .

Well, it looks very good!

Did you have to protect the dial and the S meter, or were those and the front
panel removed first??

How about the potentiometers?
