I have a set of PL-6569 tubes and would like to know if they are a direct plug in for a 3-500Z tube?  I have tried looking up the Data sheet on it but it seems to not be on the web.  I need a set of tubes for my Henry 2k due to I had one go on me last night and I have had these for years.

The info I have on these are:

555W DISP

FIL: 5V
       14.9 A

Grid -70
Grid -110

30mhz Max Freq
3500V Max Plate

Looks to me like they should just drop in but I would like to be sure before I attempt it.

Thanks, Richard

I suspect those are low mu industrial tubes and if so will not work well in that amp.

PL-6569 Specs

Well Richard, first thing I noticed is this tube has 250W plate dissipation whereas the 3-500Z has 500, as you know.
The filaments are both 5V@14 amps. So ifn the base is wired the same you could use them at reduced input with good results, I would think.

Thanks Guys for the quick reply.  I bought these to drive a 4-1000A Plate Modulation Transmitter I was going to build but that project went by the way side when I moved out here to Oklahoma, so I thought maybe they would be a quick drop in.  I guess I will have to order me up some RF Parts graphites to put back in the Henry so it is back up to it's full potential.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try them. A A250 watt tube is a bit much for a 4-1000A even in GG.  125 watts will drive the heck out of it.

Those tubes will take off if used in place of a cathode driven 3-500z.

Here is a little data on the PL-6569

It shows them requiring bias in GG operation.

Apparently they are not zero bias tubes like 3-500z's.

So you could probably use them, but you would have to provide suitable bias.

Thank you for the replies, I am going to go ahead and order new tubes for it. It is not worth tearing the Henry apart to run these.
