Beautiful sunny weather at Hamvention today (Friday).

Saturday should be a repeat with a forecast high of  81

Fridays attendance looked roughly the same as last years as far as I could tell.

Well I heard the wx was great, maybe even a bit too hot Saturday, but the turnout was as good or maybe even better than last year.   I thought price of gas would be a wet blanket but I guess not.

One problem was when all the toilets in Hara Arena backed up and flooded yesterday afternoon and everyone had to use the Joy Johns outside.   I heard the backup drained out through part of the flea market and in the afternoon heat it was not pleasant.

Yep, Sh!t Creek overflowed its banks Saturday. I have seen snow, rain, sun, sleet, freezing cold and blazing heat, but this was the first time for poop. The unfortunate ones were those whose spaces were directly in its path.

Didn't buy anything big this year, but spent a lot of time Fri and Sat digging through the cardboard boxes of miscellaneous junk under and on top of the tables, and hauled back a pile of small treasures.

Ran across this from another website.

http://www.haracomplex.com/2011Events

Looks like there are a lot of events at HARA Arena, something almost every weekend, but the Hamvention is the only event listed for the entire year that fills the whole complex. No doubt their biggest money maker.

Unfortunately, there was a mix-up this year. The Aroma Senses Liquidation Sale was supposed to have been on 4-6 February this year in East Hall.  Instead, they tried to crash the party in the Flea Market area Saturday afternoon.

Couldn't have been more bizarre than the puzzled looks on the old buzzards at the final couple of Gaithersburg (Md.) hamfests.

The flea market had downsized, and the site owners limited the hamfest to the upper part, and double-booked the lower area for the Gay Rodeo competition.
