evildoers beware of answering the phone..

   Dear Mr. Visser:

By email dated January 10, 2011, the Commission notified you that it had
received numerous complaints of interference by your station to the Possum
Net. The complaints alleged that during the ongoing interference, one of
the Net control operators called your home phone number and keyed his
microphone while you answered the call.
During that call you admitted that
you had been deliberately interfering with the Net for some time. This
conversation went out live to all of the participants in the Net.

ouch.

Aren't hams supposed to get permission before putting a telephone call on the air?

No offense, but ...

Yes. It is a violation of FCC regulations and the Communications Act to put a telephone conversation on the air without the permission of the called party. This applies both to us and to regular broadcast stations.

Of course, anything to stop the progressive CB-ification of amateur radio is welcome here!

You can get all the FCC Amateur Radio Service Enforcement Actions here: http://www.fcc.gov/eb/AmateurActions/Welcome.html  Scroll down to the "Warning Letters". For this thread topic, it's the second one down the list.

The correct spelling is OPOSSUM, shortened to POSSUM. We have lots of them in the South, as well as former strictly Texas residents called Armadilloes, referred to around here as Possum On A Half Shell.

I'm afraid it may be too late.

Advanced or Extra class? Doesn't know what "spurious emissions" means?

Nor the meaning of a "mixer" and "images" in a receiver?

And according to recent reports, Armadillos provide a great opportunity to expose yourself to leprosy.  I think when dining I will continue to avoid the questionable food category "things often found as roadkill".

According to the biochemist who was at our Thirsty Thursday event this evening (otherwise known as Guinness Night), it's pretty difficult to get leprosy from an armadillo unless you contact blood or saliva. Of course, if you're eating armadillo meat, all bets are off and you're really at risk. But, you probably are safe if you just touch one without contact with the dreaded and much maligned bodily fluids.

I agree, not a high risk but I wouldn't want to join the group.  I saw plenty of them while I was in MS and TX but I am too far north for them now.

I do remember one of the more memorable local news stories from several years ago was about a transient who went into a convenience store and used their microwave to cook a roadkill armadillo.  The police were called and had some difficulty coming up with a charge but they did find several more sun dried and very flat animals in his backpack.

I just found it there on the site as indicated and thought it a good smackdown. I read the whole thing and am glad it was resolved, everyone makes mistakes and then moves on. It was the technique that was interesting.
