One aspect I enjoy in our part of the hobby is the storytelling we get from the senior members of the AM Community.  These elderly guys saw a lot of interesting developments, and when they pass away, we really lose something.

Early this morning I was reminded of George, W1GAC with whom I always enjoyed talking.

What brought him to mind is the passing early Sunday of the last U.S. Veteran of World War One, Frank Buckles, 110.

I had the great pleasure of meeting with him several times the past few years.  What an honor.

Found a picture of my grandpa on my mother's side.
Doughboy enlisted with the Minnesota Gophers.
Grandpa Paul passed in January of '82.

Ah, Bill, thanks for that.  I can totally relate.
I hope you're keeping his stories alive.

I heard this on one of the morning news shows while in the hospital. I was definately saddened a bit in hearing it. What a great piece of history!!

Paul:

I guess you can really call that and end of an era!

Glad you got to do the story, as I know you appreciate things like that!
