Just starting the parts gathering for what will probably be 813s modulating 813s.

I just received this Mod xfmr (BC-610).  I have the 813s.  I am almost done right?   Wink

Those are some interesting spark gaps on the Peter Small  mod transformer. Looks like some parts from a fancy pansy lamp shop. I wish I new the source.

I have learned the hard way, with older open frame iron like that B-610 tranny, it would definately be in your best interest to have it HI-POT tested before you put the juice to it. This way there are "hidden surprises" Also run some 120 through it and check it for winding symetry. This way you will be able to install it with confidence.

Ive heard from BCB sources that Dahl needs those gaps, they have a bad habit of arcing internally even with them in place.

Really? I never heard that. I have a special made one by PD that was for two 813's to a 4-250. I measured it and it's good. Hope it won't blow out when I go to use it.

Terry, visit a hardware store with one of those 'small hardware' walls, all the slide out drawers of screws, washers, etc. Look for a box with lamp finials. They're threaded internally so that all you need to do is add a screw of bolt. They have simple ones like plain brass spheres that should work fine, or fancier types if you wanna pimp up your mod iron.  Grin

Another good choice is cap nuts also known as 'acorn' nuts. I've seen these on a number of transformers over the years. Nickel or chrome plated, they come in different diameters so you could make some pretty strapping spark gaps.
