Has anyone used the Russian GM-70 tube in a modulator -- or played with them at all?

The audio phools use it as a SET in circuits similar to how you would use an 845.

It's a heck of a lot cheaper than 845s.

Cheaper unless you want the "rare" copper plate version.  Sockets seem scarce and with several poor quality comments.

A pair would be nice drivers for a quad of 304TL's Cool

One can fab a good socket for them by using an old Johnson one for the 813 and carefully taking a tile bit to the holes that are too small.

One tough tube notwithstanding the 20-Volt filament.

Do they fit the twist lock base or only the flat socket? Should not make any difference at audio but it often does at RF for that style tube. It should make a great yooper breadboard oscillator for 80/160 or driven by a somewhat stable MO or crystal stage.

don't know about this guys sockets but I did get some Chinese sockets for 813's and they were perfect. Seems like there's a lot of the GM-70's around so that makes it a good choice from a supply point of view.
