I bought that xfmr off ebay, and all I can say is that it is as big as any top quality hi-fi 100W unit of the day. Bigger than Bogen MO-200 cores. I was expecting something quite a bit more compact. The actual core is 2.375" by 4.625" by 4". wow. I am really pleased on this one. Too pleased, almost.

Need to find some specs if anyone has a Gardner catalog. I am not familiar with that brand at all. I wonder what it is from?
Ok, what tubes loaf at 100W and take 2000V and have the 3/8" cap like a 807? The leads length suggest something no taller than an 807.

Was the ebay seller robtram? If so I know the guy. He is a nice guy and knowledgable. He would probably be happy to answer an email asking what the transformer was used for -- if he knows.
If it's the transformer I think it was, he was planning to use it himself. He was thinking something like 811a's x one 813.
But he showed me a Viking Valient he picked up and plans to restore to get on AM. So perhaps he has canceled his plans for a HB xmtr.
This all assumes it's the guy I think it is that sold it to you.

Just cuz the insulation is rated at 2 KV doesnt mean it was ever used there. As we all know many mod xfmrs fail from voltage spikes. 807/1625's do well at 100W. Be happy that company or their customer knew what he was doing.

OK well I don't -need- to use high voltages, just commenting the rating. I am satisfied to treat it as peak and derate further below that.
Beam tubes in "zero bias class B" hookup at 600-700V would probably be fun and a good shot if I could find a decent 100-200W input CW TX to try it with.

Got to be careful on cw rigs and possibly DX 60 types for plate spacing on the final and loading caps. Could see flash overs. It would probably be fine on an Apache or DX 100 for inboard or outboard audio.

Yeah the DX60 looked a little dinky.
The Drake 2NT - the pics don't show the capacitors, but I think it would sit well next to my 2A, which seems to do well on AM. The tube is a 6HF5 sweep tube but it has a 28W plate. I just noticed it does not have a loading control. This could be an issue if trying to steer it around in the phone part of the band as the book says it is limited to the CW portion and points out some components that assist with that "feature". huh.I hate the thought of drilling holes in front panels. Possibly removing the "delay" pot and mounting a 3-section one behind the panel, but that is right next to the osc and driver tubes.
Wel maybe another model, one with more room inside for hacking.

There is a Globe Chief model 90 there on that place but it is not working, and has some kind of spoo on it that has ran down the back, and a knob hack on the front that may or may not be good. The comments elsewhere says it is plate modulate-able.
It has dinky caps (close spaced 365pF for tune and load) but I have some better-spaced ones from old BCB table sets, and also with more capacitance for the loading.
That ought to work, be workable/moddable and it is not a pristine example so I took the plunger. It ought to be durable also with only 90W input divided between two 807's.

aww.. shucks someone outbid me on the Glob King. $61.00 + $25 shipping. Am I too cheap or just prudent? When the weather cools off I'll go to some fests and see what is out there for a decent price.
Gee whiz it is 106 degrees here. The machine runs all day and it is still 82 indoors. I can't get to sleep until about midnight when it finally is cool enough.
But I am happy because of more progress on the antenna today. The first set of guys is at 30FT. The antenna is the opiate of the people.

The work is only in the early mornings. No one is working in the hot part of the day. A professional is doing the climbing, not me.
