this is a new one to me .... put 5Vdc on the 100th filiament and got normal current draw ... then without any other voltages on the tube, I noticed that light was coming thru the plate (or appeared to) aproximating the same color as the direct glow from the fil...... as I cycled to fil on and off the glow followed it in intensity .... the tube does not appear to have been abused in any way .... I thot that maybe the direct light was reflecting off the inside of the glass and to the plate and then back out but the subtle patterns in the plate may not support this .... I may have to figure out how to post a picture of this if no one else has seen this ....HuhHuh

I think you are seeing filament light reflected by the interior of the glass envelope and re-focussed back onto the plate structure.  The spherical shape of the glass makes the envelope like a concave reflector, with a central focal point.

Yes...I have a pair of 6C21s that are N.O.S.  I lit them up recently for the first time while working on a new xmtr project.  Noticed the same thing.  it almost looks like the plates are translucent.  I don't think anyhing is wrong...just looks that way normally.  Those old tubes are cool! Enjoy the light show.

I love the light show from my 304TL's, there are 4 seperate 75T tubes in the envelope. Its enough to read by, when the plates are glowing I can get a tan.

All mine look like that, and I don't think its reflected!
I think its thin metal so they don't gas.
