An amp with a pair of 4X1s is a worthy goal.  Not sure if this guy's construction skillz were up to the task, however.

I love the plate transformer mounted in a galvanized bucket  Grin

If anyone's interested, it's up on eBay...

Maybe that bucket is partially filled with transformer oil.

Back in the days when I was blowing modulation transformers every few weeks with a "splatter" filter, I had a fraction-of-a-Henry splatter choke that was taken from an old 48-volt battery charger.  I put the thing in a tin bucket and filled it with enough pole pig oil to totally submerge the winding.  It held up with 2500 fully modulated volts and never arced over.  I wish I could have said the same for the mod iron.  I ruined some nice transformers fooling with that crap.

Finally, I took out the splatter filter junk and have never blown a mod transformer since.  That's why I have always offered the same advice to the owners of KW-1s.

Any one of yuz would be thrilled to find that at a garage sale ( or at the curb ).  Wink
At least it wasn't thrown in a dumpster. I wonder what else is lurking there ?

I love the strap used to hold the RF deck down. Check out the zip cord used to interconnect all the parallel connected filament transformers in the last photo. Nice...

I'm gathering parts for a pair 4x1 amp so I'll try to say something nice:  He has the right anode heat sinks.

Ahh, yes. The Johnson Desk prototype in it's early stages. Glad to see they didn't make too many changes between that, and the finished product.  Tongue

That rig was built by Clyde, K4UXK in Columbia, TN.  I haven't heard him on the air for a while, but have heard that rig many times.  Its signal quality was superb, about the best sounding transmitter he ever had, better than the Gates BC1-T he was running for a while.

Wow.  that dual 4x1 amp was built by someone with NO FEAR.

But I would jump on it in a minute at a yard sale...

One of the greats that came out of the early 70's. Warner Bros. funded all kinds of creative, controversial artists.
