congratulations!
let's see...we'll have to baptize you with some phonetics. BTW, Tom JJ's advice on a dipole was right on. I put up a center fed flat top dipole at 50 feet with the ends dangling down and it is about the best 75 and 40 m. ragchew antenna I could get on my 50 x 100 foot lot. GL & 73

Thanks all I've been wanting to change the "Superhet66" handle on here for a while. I can change everything but that so far. It may be an administrative function. If not I'm stumped... ? DJ

DJ I would keep the "Superhet66". Super-hetrodyne was a big break thru for receiver technology. Congrats on the license. The Y O I in your call has a nice ring to it. Fred

Well, Looks like it will be KC2YOI for the General ticket also. I kinda like it. I can forsee people mixing the "Y" & "I" if I'm giving a PW copy but that's minor. YOI ...YOIKS As far as my handle here, DJ works. DJ Hey Derb, I'm not familiar w/ a 1X3 call option?

Congrats, DJ!
It's always a FB moment in our lives when we get our first ham ticket.
Now, go for the gusto. You're on a roll and in the mode. Start taking the Advanced and Extra practice tests on the web. Do it every day. Within a couple of weeks you will ace those tests and get the Extra license. Then apply for a short callsign of your own choosing.
With the Extra, you will be able to go ANYWHERE on the ham bands without having to look up license zones, etc.
Might as well get it done while you're hot. Besides, it's a drag to put time into a callsign and then later change it. You probably WILL want to change it to something shorter - maybe not now, but later. The problem is that the longer you keep this call, the more sentimental you'll get and want to keep it.
Upgrading your ticket is like college. After getting a BSEE, it is always easier to go on for the masters and doctorate right away. Getting back into it after time off is more painful - or usually not finished.
Good luck, OM.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed. Easily done in DSP.

Thanks, points well taken. I'm spooked as it is about using my General privilages. The on line study guide i used really does help a lot. I agree about momentum with learning. I had most of my Masters in research/medical statistics in the 90's now nothing would transfer I'll go for it, I just need to get my feet wet. DJ

Congrats! if you don't love KC2YOI, you might wanna apply for a 1 x 3 vanity callsign like K2IDJ (I'm D J), for example, but check QRZ first to see if it's not already taken. http://www.arrl.org/vanity-call-sign-fees

Congratulations. I got my call as a Novice in 1976 and it took forever to send at 5 wpm with all those "dahs"! I'd thought about a 1x2 call when I upgraded to Extra but I got attached to it and never changed it...
