I knew that Raytheon has had a core of Ham operators -- that's how I got to be hired in the first place (after I mentioned that I was a Ham, the guy switched from disinterested to very interested -- the rest is history).  I knew about their SSB transceiver but I didn't know about their receiver.  Check out this ad.  Lookes all it's missing is a Sync detector and the AMer would be in heaven

There was a bit of a thread on QRZ back in 2009 about this receiver. Also was advertised in QST back in the "good old days".

If it's got handles, it's cool.

"2-30 mhz Continuous".  No way I'd pay nearly 4 grand for a receiver that doesn't cover 160.

I saw one years ago for sale at Timonium, but have never owned one unfortunately.

hmmm ya gotta be careful with some of these "professional" receivers.  That one looks like something that guy in Apocolypse Now would have, you know, that famous actor whose name escapes me right now.  the fat guy who played the whacko colonel out in the jungle.

Anyway, some of these hot multi-kilobuck rx actually are a pain to use as a band cruiser and/or have really bad space shuttle audio.

true, but until you get your mitts on one ya just dont know. the concept of a rx having a 16 kc if bandwidth but only say 3 kc audio response escapes me , but stranger things have happened.  Undecided

$9752.00. ( in 1973 dollars )

Is that the friend price or the Pentagon/State Dept. price ?   Wink

I can't tell if that's a nixie display or mechanical. Me thinks nixie.
I noticed it shares that odd vernier counter seen on the late 390A VFOs.
I'de like to see the posterior of that thang.

Unfortunately I have no other photos of the receiver. I have added a partial price list.

That's a cool looking receiver.
Slightly better photo and different sales copy of the initial post.

I am finding various "used receiver" ads out there for both the 1230 and the "A."
