I'm thinking of building the The The ‘Retro-75’ 75/80 Meter AM Transceiver board kit http://smallwonderlabs.com/Retro-75.htm

but I am wondering what a good frequency would be and how much DSB activity is there? It's a QRP rig so not too much DX...

Hi Doug.

3885Khz is the center of activity for AM on 75 so right out of the box you should be OK. 2.5 Watts is gonna be a problem at night though. Like Frank KB3AHE says it's like bringing a knife to a gunfight! Plans for more power are in order.

But morning and early evening can be quite productive.

For more fun plan on figuring a more flexible transmit frequency setup. Some type of VFO. There's AM down between 3650 and 3735 at anytime. Most commonly 3705KHz, 3725KHz and 3733Khz.

Good luck and good AMing.

Thanks Buddy. I have a big rig with more umph, but the idea was to build it myself and get it on the air. To top it off I live right now in a terrible QTH so I will need some kind of stealth antenna.

Doug, I'm in south Minneapolis but all my stuff is boxed at the moment during remodeling. Hopefully I'll have something on the air in a month or two.
