I wanted to make a meter bridge out of some plexiglass I had laying around....for a long while. The paper on both sides of the sheet are so old and dried out that it's not coming off Anybody have any suggestions?

I've had varied success soaking the piece in water with a little dish detergent in it. Seems to work better if the water is pretty hot to start with. Sometimes it works, sometime I have to go buy new plexiglass.
Good luck.

I don't know if it will work for this app but I've used WD-40 to get labels off plastic with good results.

Alcohol works just fine as does paint thinner.

Soaking it in mineral oil (baby oil) overnight then a trip through the dish washer usually worked FB for me. WD-40 is also good. Any oily substance that does not attack the plexi should be helpfull. If it's a small piece coat it and bag it and let it sit.

I've run into this situation before too. It's a PITA. The few pieces I have bought for future projects, I simply peel the stuff off and store it in a safe place.
I wonder if a hair dryer would help it come off easily. Never tried it.

Light it on fire like the end of Monterey. Avoid the fumes. Don't look back. Been there.

Yeah, in the Tom Vu Plexiglas emporium, I've come across dried-on paper too. I usually soak it with gasoline and let it sit. I'm sure any petroleum product (kerosene) will be a good solvent for the glue, but I like to live dangerously... It's a good suggestion that if the Plexiglas it to sit for a long time, especially in hot, dry cornditions, pre-peel off the paper and carefully pack the Plexi away in storage. T

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed. Easily done in DSP.

You don't know what a PITA is until you try to assemble a made in China green house made from polycarb sheets. We would have spent at least a week just pealing them had we not come up with the alcohol trick.

Look through your wife's lotions and cosmetics. Read the labels and see if any of the products contain lanolin and or PEG's or PAGs. If they do, mix them 50/50 with water and apply. Like the Cajun chef said, "Ah GUARAnteee it!" Phil - AC0OB

I appreciate all the ideas. The paper was so old the adhesive had bonded and etched the surface. I went to the local hardware store and got a scrap piece for a buck......and yes the paper came off! I'll consider setting the old pieces on fire.

I'll consider setting the old pieces on fire. Just don't inhale the fumes. Certain plexi's can be very toxic.

GooGone seems to work on this stuff and left over masking tape...
Are you certain that the adhesive has actually etched the surface or are you seeing residual adhesive? I've got some scary old acrylic plastic sheet where the paper really does not want to come off, but have never ever seen where the adhesive has in any way attacked the plastic.
I'd check again... try the GooGone stuff too...

Well I soaked a piece of the offending plexiglass in a shallow lid with the goo-gone overnite....nfg That glue and paper is soooo old it wouldn't budge. So if you are looking to remove the paper off the plexiglass go back to post one or go to the hardware store and buy a new piece!
